Hello friends!

Replace your mouthwash with a tablespoon of oil and instead of 2 minutes of gargling, spend 15-20 minutes swishing oil around your mouth and in between your teeth! huh?

I discovered oil pulling during my yoga teacher training course, but it wasn’t until today that I decided to actually try it!  Among a lengthy list of benefits, this practice is said to freshen your breath, detoxify your body and whiten your teeth. I am committing to this practice for the next 7 days and will share my observations as I go on social media.  If you want to give it a try, check out the “How to” below and a recent article discussing the benefits of oil pulling.

How to Oil Pull

Coconut Oil

  1. Put about a tablespoon of oil (good quality, organic sesame or coconut) in your mouth.
  2. Swish the oil around your mouth and in between your teeth for about 15-20 minutes.
  3. Spit out the oil, then brush your teeth.

*It is recommended that you do this first thing in the morning on an empty stomach, before you brush your teeth.

I used coconut oil because it’s my fave!
GAG ALERT: Because coconut oil is solid at room temperature, you may have to chew it a little to let it melt. My first round at this “pulling” business resulted in me gagging and spitting the oil into the sink!

I will write a follow up post after the week to share any experiences that may be helpful. Feel free to share in the comments below.  Happy Pulling!
